Over 300 different languages make up London's various cultures. Greater London was the third-most populated metropolis in Europe as of mid-2018, with a population of nearly 9 million, making up 13.4% of the population of the United Kingdom and more than 16% of the population of England. According to the 2011 census, the Greater London Built-up Area has 9.8 million residents, making it the fourth most populated region in all of Europe. With around 14 million residents as of 2016, the London metropolitan area ranked third in terms of population in all of Europe, making London a megacity.
